Digging for Gold

P2190039

My Dawg heard a rumour that there was old Spanish gold buried under our house.   So, here he is digging for it.

P2190040

Digging and digging and digging.

P2190041

He was very excited and diligent.

P2190042

He thought he found something in this hole, but it was just an old brick.

P2190030

So he dug another.

P2190033

And another until there were ten holes dug all around my house.

I am just kidding you know.  About the why that is.  There really is ten holes all around my house.  They even dug where one of my Azalea bush once lived.

They are actually digging to lift the house so that it is level.  We have a lot of Yazoo Clay in our area and occassionally it shifts and your house starts to split.  So we have to do this to make it straighten out.

P2190029

See my poor Azaela bush laying on its side.

P2190027

Here they are starting to jack hammer holes on either side of my kitchen door.

P2190028

Digging under my chimney.

 P2190038

The hole under my chimney.

P2200045

Once all the holes are dug they start inserting these concrete lifts into the dirt and drive them down until they hit rock.

P2200046

They have to insert and drive down a lot.

It is not a pretty site.  My house looks like it has been hit with bombs all around.

This too shall pass.

That is amazing... is it just a once in a lifetime thing or do you have to do it often?

@light_and_fluffy - This house is about 20 years old and it is the first time it has had to have its foundation adjusted.  Hopefully, it won't happen for another 20 years.

It is rather complicated for me, Cat . I understood  you are going to make the house higher so you have to make the foundations stronger . Dawg is digging to make those foundations with concrete .
It is a big work . ( which may be dangerous ).

Love

Michel

I like the thought that he is digging for gold better than having to repair the foundation. But that is great he can do the work. I hope it gets done and your house no longer sinks or splits.
